Updated: Mar 9, 2022

Whether it’s spending money on training or employing new staff, it can feel scary investing in your business, but taking that leap can have really positive effects. This week, we look at the kind of investments that can make a big difference.

Hands with plant growing inside

Training

It doesn’t matter if you're new to your industry or have been doing it for years, training can really help expand your business and give you more confidence.

This could be learning a new skill that will help your business to run more smoothly or enhancing your knowledge so that you can offer extra services. Make sure the investment is worth it and the new skill will benefit your business in some way.

Mentors and coaches are really useful for freelancers and small businesses too as they can provide support and advice to help your business grow.

Tools

From accounting apps to online file storage, there will be essential tools that you can invest in to ensure your business runs safely and smoothly.

For example, accounting websites like Xero make it quick and easy to send out invoices and chase payments. Investing in a tool like this will help you keep on top of your finances and make sure there’s a steady flow of money coming in. You can read more about the tools we love in our blog.

People

If you don’t want to or can’t find the time to do any training but you struggle to manage certain tasks yourself, think about investing in people who can. This could be a copywriter, a social media manager or an accountant - who will be more than worth their fee when your tax return is due!

We have to mention a VA! A highly skilled assistant who can take on many of the tasks that you're too busy to do. There’s lots of benefits to hiring a VA, including giving you more time to focus on yourself and your business without having to commit to full-time staff and employee benefits.

Don’t underestimate the power of marketing. This doesn’t have to be fancy adverts or leaflets, a well- designed website and good quality business cards can set the right tone for your business.

Investing your time

Finally, don’t feel like you have to rush into any of these things. Building a successful business and a career doesn’t happen overnight so our advice is do your research and take the time to make sure you get things right.
