It’s time to find out more about our VA, Jenny! She explains the everyday tasks she does for her clients and what she loves most about being a virtual assistant.
What is my job?
My job as a virtual assistant for The Arts VA is to support my clients with the administration side of their business. It’s really varied and could be managing their inboxes, processing their invoices, making travel and accommodation bookings, ordering supplies, organising training, placing recruitment adverts and setting up interviews, diary management and arranging meetings or researching a particular project.
After my degree in English Literature, I spent 10 years living in London and working in
theatre for various theatre production companies. I left my full-time position at Cameron
Mackintosh in 2019 when I took a year off working to have my son. Then COVID happened
and working remotely became more accessible for many companies. I therefore decided
to become a VA and combine what I loved doing around family life.
I worked with Charlie for many years at Cameron Mackintosh. She had set up The Arts VA
a couple of years previously so when I decided to be a VA she was the first person I went
to.
What kind of work do I do?
My clients are currently all theatre or events based. After working with clients for a while you generally fall into a rhythm with them about what tasks need doing and when. I therefore block time each week for those specific tasks.
Clients also sign up for a particular package – 5, 10, 20 hours a month, etc. I am
therefore able to plan my weeks around their individual requirements. A ten hour a month
client for example might use 30 minutes a day or they might prefer that I work with them
in one block i.e. two and a half hours in one go each week.
There is no one size fits all approach with being a VA and when I first start working with someone how everything is going to work is something we will discuss.
What do I love about it?
I love theatre and I love the work that I do. I enjoy that there is always an ‘end result’ in
either a show or an event and that I get to visually see all the work come together and
know that I have been able to contribute to that through the work that I do.
